safc.com travels back in time to find out what happened on this day in the club's history.
1988 – Two goals in each half gave Sunderland a 4-0 home victory over Swindon Town.
1983 – Sunderland’s shirts carried a sponsor’s logo for the first time, Cowies, for the home game against Manchester United.
1955 – The Black cats went top of Division One with a 3-2 win at Spurs. By this stage Sunderland had netted 35 goals in the first 12 games of the season.
1904 – Billy Hogg became the first Sunderland player to be sent off in a home game. He was dismissed shortly after giving Sunderland a 3-0 lead against Sheffield Wednesday.
