2000 – The Crown Prince Len Shackleton died at the age of 78. Later that day a minute silence was observed by a record home League Cup crowd of 47,543 who watched Manchester United get beaten 2-1.
1998 – Niall Quinn scored for the sixth successive league game as the Lads convincingly won 4-0 at Sheffield United.
1979 – Sunderland won the Daily Express five-a-side National Football Championship at Wembley Indoor Arena.
1953 – Welsh international centre-forward Trevor Ford was transferred to Cardiff City for £30,000.
