Home attendances show increase

by Stuart Vose

Fans turn out in numbers again in 2012-13.

The 2012-13 campaign saw Sunderland record their highest average home attendance in five seasons.

An average of 40,544 supporters attended each of the 19 home league games – an increase of almost 4%.

The total season attendance topped an incredible 770,000, placing Sunderland seventh amongst Barclays Premier League clubs and 17th in Europe.

The Black Cats are sandwiched between Chelsea and Italian giants Juventus in the European table.

The Wear-Tyne derby against Newcastle back in October attracted the biggest crowd of the season as 47,456 fans packed the Stadium of Light.

Meanwhile 46,402 attended the game against Arsenal in March with 44,614 witnessing the 1-0 win over Everton in April.

Including the cup games against Morecambe and Bolton, the total aggregate attendance at the Stadium of Light for 2012-13 was 843,255.

Thanks for all your support this season!
