Sunderland fan Michael Stokoe was the lucky winner of the StubHub VIP day for the final home game of the season with Southampton.
Michael, a season ticket holder at the Stadium of Light, sold his ticket for the Stoke game via StubHub, the criteria to enter the competition, after he was unable to attend the original fixture on Saturday 4 May.
However, due to the rearranged fixture, Michael was able to attend after all and he and his son James, were lucky enough to be chosen as the winner of a once in a lifetime experience soaking up the match action with Black Cats legends Jimmy Montgomery and Bobby Kerr when SAFC met Southampton.
And Michael, who is no relation to former Sunderland boss Bob Stokoe, was delighted with the experience provided by Sunderland AFC and StubHub.
“We were greeted by Jimmy Montgomery, Dick Malone, Micky Horswill and Bobby Kerr from the 1973 FA Cup winning team,” Michael said.
“We were asked by Jimmy if Bob Stokoe was a relative; he is, but not the Bob Stokoe.
“At the risk of offending Jimmy I was then introduced to one of my heroes, Barry Siddall.
“Barry and his wife were great company all day and it was great to hear some of the behind the scenes stories from the late 70's and early 80's when I was a child; it’s amazing the stuff you don't know or even think of as a 12 year old.”
Michael was also taken round the Stadium of Light by Montgomery whilst he also sat in the manager’s seat prior to kick-off.
“We toured the dressing rooms with Jimmy and walked up the tunnel before sitting in the dugout – they were very comfortable seats, though Paolo Di Canio won't know - he never sits down,” he added.
“Then finally there was the match, we sat next to Bobby and Jimmy, quite a surreal experience for any Sunderland fan.
“I’d like to thank StubHub and SAFC for giving us such a memorable experience.”
