SAFC legend joins Foundation in Hong Kong community initiative.

Former SAFC chairman Niall Quinn was on hand to greet youngsters taking part in a special Premier League programme being hosted by Foundation of Light coaches in Hong Kong.

Scores of young people have been involved in the Premier Skills initiative, which draws on the global appeal of football and the Premier League, to give the youngsters access to football coaching and the opportunity to learn and develop new skills.

Quinn, who is in Hong Kong as part of the Barclays Asia Trophy tournament, couldn’t resist dropping in on the session and was delighted with what he saw.

The Irishman said: “It’s a fantastic initiative. The Premier League brings people from all over the world and all types of backgrounds together and has the ability to really engage young people.

“Sunderland’s Foundation of Light have fantastic expertise and an enthusiasm that rubs off on young people; the work they are doing here in Hong Kong is brilliant.

“The kids have really bought into it and it’s fantastic to see both SAFC and the Premier League making such an impact in the country.”

Quinn was at the Premier Skills event alongside former Tottenham Hotspurs star Ledley King.  The pair took part in sessions that look to develop a brighter future for young people around the world as part of a collaborative project between the Barclays Premier League and the British Council.
