Be a Director for the Day

One week left to enter exclusive competition.

The unique business competition ‘Be a Director for the Day’, launched by Sunderland Football Club’s principal partner and shirt sponsor, Invest in Africa, will close in one week’s time.

Tuesday 13th November is the deadline for companies to submit their entry to win the exclusive prize at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday 27th November for the club’s Barclays Premier League match against Queens Park Rangers.  One company representative and guest will join members of Sunderland AFC’s board in the directors’ box.  The winning company will also be able to enjoy matchday hospitality for eight of its employees in the Invest in Africa executive box.

Furthermore, all entrants to the competition will receive feedback from Invest in Africa about the types of business opportunities available in the continent. 

Paul Callaghan CBE, Chairman of the Leighton Group, said: “Invest in Africa and the Sunderland AFC have been working closely to engage the regional business community.  This initiative provides a great incentive for companies in the North East to learn more about doing business in Africa and highlight potential opportunities. 

“Africa boasts some of the world’s fastest growing economies and presents a fantastic investment opportunity. I would encourage all regional companies, even those with little or no experience of doing business on the continent, to enter.”

Invest in Africa is a pioneering not-for-profit business initiative which, through its partnership with Sunderland AFC, is aiming to use the global reach of the Barclays Premier League to show that Africa is open for business, create new business opportunities with the continent and highlight opportunities to companies, including those based in the North East.

Entry Details

To enter the competition, simply email with details of your company name, contact information, and a link to the company website. 

Invest in Africa will send your company a simple form to fill in so that they can follow up with advice and contacts for exploring new business opportunities in Africa. The closing date for entries is Tuesday 13th November, 2012. Entry is open to all companies, no matter what their size or experience of working in Africa.

Terms and Conditions

Only one entry per company is permitted. The closing date is Tuesday 13th November 2012.  The winner will be selected at random and this decision is final.  The winner will be notified by email or telephone by Tuesday 20 November. Prizes are neither transferable, nor exchangeable and cannot be redeemed for cash.  By participating in this competition you agree for your contact details to be shared with Sunderland AFC, Invest in Africa and their PR company, WSM Communications.
