FAQs

Got a Black Cats query?

It's probably already been answered. Check our comprehensive FAQ list below.

Q. Why are Sunderland called the Black Cats?
A) The link between Sunderland and Black Cats goes back almost 200 years but it was only recently that the name was adopted by the club. Fans sent suggestions which were eventually narrowed down to five options, with the Black Cats name and its historical links proving the most popular.

Q. Who do I contact about Charity Donations?

A. Any requests for charitable donations must be sent in writing (not email) to: Customer Service Manager, Sunderland AFC, Stadium of Light, Sunderland, SR5 1SU.

They request must state which registered charity you are, your registered charity number, the date of the event, the nature of the event and full contact details. Any donations are in the form of signed memorabilia -we do not offer financial support of any kind.

Please note although we would love to donate signed merchandise/raffle/auction items to every worthwhile cause, this is simply impossible due to the incredible volume of requests received on a daily basis. Due to the number of requests received, Sunderland AFC aim to respond to all requests within a four- to six-week period to inform you if you have been successful or not in obtaining a raffle prize.

We are unable to accept requests from third parties raising funds on behalf of registered charities or appeals unless their letter is accompanied by an official letter on the charity's letterhead confirming that the person is authorised to raise funds on the charity's behalf. If you cannot supply a confirmation letter from them to accompany your letter we only deal with the charity or organisation directly.

SAFC does not offer sponsorships or donations of a financial nature.
