Find out what the Foundation of Light has in store for the year ahead.
The Foundation of Light is asking supporters to challenge themselves by taking part in physical events in the upcoming year to raise money for community projects in the North East.
The three initial events that the Foundation are revealing places for are; the D2S Dublin to Sunderland Cycle challenge and the Lambton 10k in June, along with the Great North Run taking place in September.
Cycling 380 miles through four countries over five days, the D2S challenge is a real experience for those who like to get out in the great outdoors. This fully supported challenge takes a team of riders through breathtaking scenery with participants enjoying a great team spirit.
The annual Lambton 10k and 3k runs are a rare opportunity to run in the beautiful Lambton Park Estate situated between Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne. The unique setting makes this challenge a real draw for non-competitive runners looking to try something different and the 3K run offers a chance for younger members of the family to get involved too.
The Great North Run is the world’s biggest and most iconic half marathon held this year on Sunday 15 September 2013. Approximately 56,000 people are expected to run the 13.1 mile course and the event raises millions for charities across the country every year.
Phil King, Foundation of Light Head of Commercial, said “we want to give people the opportunity to enjoy fantastic experiences whilst raising much needed funds for local community projects. All three of these events are things that people will have to train for, will look forward to and hopefully remember for a very long time.”
“We would also welcome suggestions from people who would like to organise challenges of their own.”
