Four goal show for U21s

Black Cats get better of Stoke City.

Sunderland U21s 4 Stoke City 1

Sunderland’s under-21 side were resounding winners when Stoke City made the trip to Wearside.

Titus Bramble had a shot deflected over the line to open the scoring for the home side in the first half, before second half goals from Adam Reed, Ji Dong-won and Fraizer Campbell were enough to seal the three points for Kevin Ball’s side.

Ball had named a strong squad for the clash with the Potters, with senior players James McFadden, Bramble and Campbell all handed starts.

It was a quiet opening 45 minutes, other than the own goal that put Sunderland in front, with neither goalkeeper being tested.

Both sides upped the tempo in the wintry north eastern conditions following the break with Sunderland doubling their lead when skipper Adam Reed converted from the spot after Campbell was brought down inside the area.

Korean striker Ji Dong-won was next to get his name on the score sheet with an effort from close range.

Before fellow front man Campbell gave City stopper Daniel Bachmann no chance as fired the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-0.

Moments before the final whistle Sunderland were denied a clean sheet as Potters’ striker Karim Rossi nabbed a consolation goal for the visitors.
