Having joined the club in 1948, Tommy Wright was quick to prove himself as a direct winger and fitted in well to Sunderland’s attack.
Despite suffering from a bad injury during his early days at Roker Park, Wright responded well and scored 18 league goals in 38 games during the 1953-54 campaign, his best return for the club.
