PROFILE

Charles Thomson made his Sunderland debut at home to Blackburn Rovers in 1931, but did not manage to become a regular until a season later.

He was ever-present in successive seasons in 1934/35 and 1935/36, and three times his seasonal appearances exceeded 30.

During that time the right-half played a key role as Sunderland won Division One in 1936, and he also played in all nine ties of the successful 1937 FA Cup run.
