Shared ownership of a racehorse with Sunderland AFC players and an Aston Martin Vantage, valued at over £80,000, are just two of the exclusive prizes up for grabs at this year’s North East Oyster Festival.

The annual event, held at Hardwick Hall in Sedgefield on Friday 21st September, is recognised as one of the main highlights on the North East social and corporate calendar and the Foundation of Light, the charity of Sunderland Football Club, has been chosen as the festivals nominated charity for this year.

Guests at the hugely popular event will enjoy champagne, a feast of seafood and a full day’s entertainment headlined by top Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan. The main fundraising attractions on the day are the opportunity to bid for part ownership of a racehorse for a year and to throw the dice to win an £80,000 Aston Martin.

SAFC stars Lee Cattermole, John O’Shea, Phil Bardsley and Wes Brown have each bought a share of the horse named ‘Flight of Light’, which will compete in numerous events throughout the racing season, with any winnings being spread equally among the shareholders. Guests will also be challenged to roll seven sixes from seven dice to be in with a chance of driving away the Aston Martin courtesy of Stratstone Aston Martin - for just £10 a throw.

The Foundation of Light will be running a variety of fundraising activities throughout the day including live and silent auctions and sports, beauty and fashion raffles with proceeds going directly to help fund the charity’s ground-breaking and award-winning sports, health, community and education programmes.

Katrina Quinn, Fundraising Coordinator for the Foundation of Light commented: “We’re very grateful to Hardwick Hall and the event organisers for giving us the opportunity to be part of the Oyster Festival and we hope that our activities will help enhance what is already set to be an outstanding day.”

“The two main prizes on offer are fantastic. Not many people can brag that they co-own a racehorse, let alone with SAFC stars, or tell their friends that they won a £80,000 car for just £10. We’re hoping that demand will be high for both activities.”
