More support for Foundation of Light.

A successful Sunderland businessman is taking part in the upcoming Great North Run to raise money for the Foundation of Light.

Darren Williams, Founder and Managing Director of Harland Corporation, recently joined the board of the Foundation of Light and will be running with the aim of raising £2,000 for the charity.

Darren said: “I’m delighted to be supporting the Foundation of Light as their work across the north east makes such a positive difference to the lives of young people in our region.”

“Although it has been challenging, I’ve stuck to my training regime and I’m looking forward to reaching the finish line next month, having raised as much money as possible.”

The Great North Run will be Darren’s latest fundraising activity for the Foundation, after recently taking part in Zip Wear, a charity event which saw more than 400 people throw themselves from the roof of the Stadium of Light attached to a zip line to raise funds for the Foundation of Light and St Benedict’s Hospice.

Last year, the Foundation of Light helped to improve the lives of more than 42,000 young people and their families across the North East of England, using the power of football to involve, inspire and educate.

Speaking of Darren’s involvement with the run, Foundation of Light Fundraising Chief Executive Lesley Sphuler, said:

“As one of our newest board members, we’re thrilled that Darren is not only giving his time and expertise to help out behind the scenes, but also getting involved in another fundraising activity that will support the Foundation of Light’s work across the region.”

Taking place on Sunday 16th September, the Great North Run is one of the most iconic and biggest half marathons, with a course spanning 13.1 miles from Newcastle to picturesque coastal finish in South Shields.
