Fly the red and white flag ahead of derby.
The Foundation of Light, in association with Sun FM, are calling on football supporters, schools and companies across the region to 'Show Your Colours' ahead of this month’s Wear-Tyne derby clash at the Stadium of Light.
The charity is asking everyone to proudly wear their football strips or colours of their favourite team for a full day, anytime in the two weeks between 8th and 19th October, to build up the excitement ahead of the match between Sunderland and Newcastle United on Sunday 21st October.
Participants are asked to donate £1 to take part, which will be collected by Foundation of Light staff, Sun FM presenters, and/or special guests throughout the two weeks, with all money raised helping to support the Foundation of Light’s sports, health, community and education programmes.
The Foundation of Light is Sun FM’s charity of the year.
Phil King, Head of Commercial at the Foundation of Light, said: “‘Show Your Colours’ is a fun and easy to take part in event that gives people the opportunity to demonstrate their pride for their local team as well as supporting Foundation of Light programmes. Those taking part can wear anything that demonstrates their team’s colours, from full strip to a tie or even just socks!.
“It would be great to see as many schools, companies and football supporters across the North East get behind ‘Show Your Colours’ once again and help to raise funds for community projects in their local area.”
Participants can register online at www.sun-fm.com or call 0191 5515191 for more information.
The Foundation of Light (formerly known as SAFC Foundation) is the registered charity of Sunderland AFC which works with more than 40,000 people every year.
The organisation uses the power of football to inspire, involve and educate children, families and adults across the North East through programmes that can improve their lives.
Structurally and financially independent of the football club the organisation relies on fundraising for 95% of project costs.
