Mental Health programme launched in schools.
The Foundation of Light recently launched its Mental Health Awareness programme in schools ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week.
The programme aims to introduce primary and secondary school children to the concept of mental health and increase their understanding of mental health issues.
The Foundation of Light are also hosting special Coaches’ Clinics focussed on mental health awareness.
This Coaches’ Clinic will give coaches and teachers’ a better understanding of mental health and cues for recognising poor mental health in their players.
Kevin Darke, Making Moves Coordinator at the Foundation of Light comments: “With these programmes we hope to reduce the stigma associated with poor mental health, helping people recognise and acknowledge mental illness when it occurs.”
“We have worked closely with Sunderland Mind, Headlight, Mental Health Matters and Sunderland NHS to ensure that we are delivering sessions that have practical value and will benefit the long term health of people within the region, either directly or indirectly through our work.”
The Mental Health Awareness programme is funded by Christ’s Hospital, Sherburn.
