Free BTEC course launched

Level 2 Diploma in Sport involved.

The last few places are still available on the Foundation of Light’s BTEC level 2 Diploma in Sport course starting Wednesday, September 11.

The course provides an exciting education and training opportunity for the sport industry allowing adults aged 19 years plus the chance to gain vital knowledge and experience needed for employment in the sector.

Held at classrooms at the Stadium of Light, for two and a half days a week over 20 weeks the course is completely free to participants who can pre-register by contacting Paul Leach on 0191 5515191 or paul.leach@safc.com.

The BTEC course will give learners a nationally recognised qualification which is useful for those looking to take on roles of personal trainer, fitness instructor, sports coach and more.

The eight units covered during the course are:

Fitness testing and training

Practical sport

- Anatomy and physiology of sport

- Planning and leading sports activities

- Nutrition for sports performance

- Development of personal fitness

- Work experience in the sports industry

- Effects of exercise on the body systems

Course tutor Paul Leach said: “We like to offer high quality tuition in a friendly, relaxed and professional environment geared to giving learners the best support necessary for them to achieve.

“At the Foundation of Light sport is obviously a huge area of our expertise and we feel that this course gives learners wanting to work in the sports industry a fantastic grounding.”

Participants receive travel expenses and lunch whilst on the course.

The programme is funded by Sunderland City Council.
