Over £12,000 raised for Sunderland AFC's registered charity.Sunderland AFC’s ‘Foundation Day’, held on Saturday 5th October at the Stadium of Light, has raised in excess of £12,000 for the club’s registered charity, the Foundation of Light.
Both teams, Sunderland AFC and Manchester United were welcomed onto the pitch by participants from the Foundation’s hugely successful community programmes, who waved Foundation of Light flags and carried a huge Foundation flag bearing the organisation’s ‘Involve, Educate, Inspire’ slogan.
The Black Cats stars also wore one-off match shirts, bearing the Foundation’s logo, which have been individually signed and auctioned via the online auction site eBay.
At half-time participants from the Foundation’s Family Learning, ‘Little Dribblers’, ‘Elite Squad’ and disability programme ‘Making Moves’ took to the pitch at half-time, showcasing some of the charity’s work first hand.
It forms part of a series activities, which took place during the match, all designed to raise awareness of the Foundation of Light’s work across this North East.
This included a special parade around the Stadium of Light pitch by many of the charity’s previous beneficiaries, as well as a variety of activities being demonstrated at half time.
Lesley Spuhler, CEO at the Foundation of Light, said: “We’re extremely grateful to SAFC for allowing us to fundraise and boost our profile during the recent game against Manchester United.
“It’s been fantastic to see all the support for our beneficiaries and activities on the pitch, as well as the on-going support we’ve received for the auction on-line.”
The charity launched Friends of the Foundation scheme, which has been designed to further boost this fundraising and encourage community involvement.
As part of the scheme, which costs £10, to join, supporters will receive automatic entry into regular prize draws to win signed SAFC items and match tickets, as well as discounts to selected Foundation of Light events and sports coaching courses.
