Bumper food parcels to raise funds for charity.
Gourmets can enjoy a taste of the North East this Christmas and support a good cause at the same time.
The Foundation of Light, the official charity of Sunderland AFC, has teamed up with Northumberland-based food and drink business Tasteclub to offer a range of festive hampers in the run up to Christmas.
Not only do they showcase the finest food from across the region but proceeds from each one sold will be donated to the charity, which helps children, young people and families in Sunderland, Durham and South Tyneside.
Food lovers can choose from three hampers including the Wine and Cheese - which pairs three locally-produced cheeses with chenin blanc and shiraz from Lanchester Wines - and The Perfect Hamper, containing a wide range of gourmet goodies such as Fentimans Curiosity Cola, Heatherslaw shortbread and Corn Again chilli and fennel popcorn.
In addition, the Best of the Great North Hamper is a bumper feast of locally produced sweets, biscuits, chutney, wine, cake and cheese, with Swallow Fish kippers and a Jenkins & Hustwit Christmas pudding.
Each hamper will also contain chocolate football lollipops and information about the Foundation of Light, which works with more than 42,000 people every year through education, sports, health and community engagement programmes across the North East.
“Along with the hampers shoppers can also enjoy mini-treats such as memento packs of marmalade and biscuits,” said Philip King, from the Foundation of Light.
“There really is something to suit all tastes and budgets and, not only do the hampers make lovely Christmas gifts, but they will help raise much-needed funds for the Foundation.”
The hampers cost £55 for the Wine and Cheese; £100 for The Perfect Hamper and £150 for The Best of the Great North. Memento packs of biscuits and either marmalade or tea cost £6.
Orders must be placed by no later than 9th December to ensure delivery in time for Christmas and hampers can be collected from the Stadium of Light or one of the Foundation of Light’s outreach community sites in Chester-le-Street, Shildon, Derwentside and Peterlee.
