Chance to play at the SoL

Find out how you could play at the Stadium of Light.

Youngsters and adults are being given the opportunity to play on the Stadium of Light pitch, with special training sessions and tournaments hosted by the Foundation of Light, the registered charity of Sunderland AFC,

A range of activities will be taking place on Tuesday 28th May, for people aged 5 years and above:

  • 9am-2pm girls and boys mixed under 7s and 8s, and under 9s and 10s FA affiliated tournaments will take place. The format is seven-a-side with all teams being guaranteed a minimum of five games. The cost is £110 per team and up to 11 players may be included in each team squad.
  • 2.30-4pm will be utilised for a coaching and small sided games session for youngsters aged 5-12 years with places costing just £10 per player.

Scouts from Sunderland AFC’s Academy of Light will be in attendance for both morning and afternoon sessions.

  • 5-7.30pm there will be an adults’ five-a-side tournament taking place with squads of up to eight players vying to win the Foundation Fives tournament trophy. Places for teams in this tournament are just £300 (including VAT).

Speaking about the day Graham Robinson, Foundation of Light Football Development Director commented:

“We’re delighted to be able to invite youngsters and adults to the Stadium of Light to enjoy a top footballing experience and are grateful to Sunderland AFC for giving us this opportunity to bring youth and grassroots football to the home of the Black Cats.”

Structurally and financially independent of the football club, the Foundation of Light relies on fundraising for 90% of project costs. Proceeds from the day’s activity will be re-invested into community sports programmes including the organisation’s award winning disabled sport activity.
