FA Cup winners set to host charity race day.
Members of Sunderland AFC’s legendary 1973 FA Cup-winning team will host a special Race Day in aid of the Foundation of Light next week
Taking place at Sedgefield Racecourse on Friday 22 March, the event aims to raise funds for a range of community projects across the North East.
Guests will enjoy lunch, afternoon race-card, post-race buffet, entertainment from comedian John Scott and an after dinner question and answer session with members of the ’73 FA Cup winning team.
There will also be silent and live auctions as well as an envelope draw for some exclusive SAFC items and experiences, and a Race Day accumulator.
A limited number of places remain, with tables of 10 available from £1,000, sponsorship packages available for £2,500, and the chance to become a share owner of the Foundation of Light horse, which will be racing on the day.
Last year’s Race Day was a resounding success, raising almost £20,000 - which pays for over 200 children and their parents to take part in the Foundation’s highly-acclaimed Family Learning through Football programme.
Foundation of Light Event Coordinator Katrina Quinn said: “We’re very excited the return of our annual race day fundraiser this year with an FA Cup theme. The members of the legendary team who cemented Sunderland AFC’s place in the competition’s history are looking forward to a great day at the races with our guests.”
Foundation of Light Head of Commercial Phil King added: “The annual race day is a great opportunity to get together with friends and work colleagues and have an SAFC themed day out. Tables and sponsorships are both fantastic value for money and we expect to sell out on both.”
Structurally and financially independent of the football club, SAFC Foundation relies on fundraising for 90% of project costs. It uses the power of football and the SAFC brand to inspire, involve and educate more than 42,000 children and their families across the North East in activities that improve their lives every year.
