Head of coaching takes part in grassroots workshop.

Football coaches across Wearside are being offered the chance to develop their skills at Sunderland AFC’s Academy of Light.

The Coaching the Coaches session from the Foundation of Light is designed to help grassroots improve the standard of play at their clubs throughout the region.

Spearheaded by Sunderland AFC’s Academy Head of Coaching, Elliott Dickman and the Foundation of Light’s Head of Football Development, Jamie Wright, the session takes place on Friday 22 March, 6.00pm-9.00pm at the club’s training facility in Cleadon.

A classroom style workshop on the importance of pre-match preparation will begin the session before coaches will take part in a practical session based on defending on the pitch as an individual, as a unit and a team.

Places at the clinic cost just £5 and can be booked by contacting Lynn Cuthbertson on 0191 5515315 or email lynn.cuthbertson@safc.com.

Speaking ahead of the event, Jamie Wright said: "The Foundation of Light is actively committed to the development of grassroots football in the North East and these workshops are a major part of that.

"Continuing from last year’s highly successful programme we continue to give coaches access to some of the best qualified and most insightful individuals in their field for a very reasonable price.

Elliott returns to the workshops bringing his considerable experience and fantastic insight into sport’s coaching which all coaches can benefit from.”

The Foundation of Light's Football Coaching Department offers player pathways from in-school coaching and after-school clubs, through to Elite clubs, development centres and Sunderland AFC's Academy.

The ‘Coaching the Coaches’ initiative aims to grant grassroots coaches access to some of the country’s top coaching talent to help them improve their players’ skills and enjoyment of football.
