Festival in conjunction with Premier League School Sport programme.More than 180 primary school children will participate in a sports festival next week as part of a new Premier League School Sport programme ran by the Foundation of Light.
Youngsters aged 9-11 years from four schools will attend the event at City Space, Sunderland, which aims to increase participation in sport and physical activity.
The programme also aims to develop teamwork and communication skills whilst improving physical coordination.
Coaches from the Foundation of Light, the registered charity of Sunderland AFC, have been delivering the six week programme at Blackfell Primary, East Boldon Juniors, Whitburn Village Primary and Simonside Primary School, all of whom will be attending the festival.
The Premier League School Sport programme has worked with more than 550 children in 12 schools this term.
Speaking about the upcoming event Ian Archbold, Foundation of Light Competition and Events Coordinator commented: “the Premier League School Sport programme helps youngsters develop in so many ways through sport – socially, physically and emotionally – and next week’s festival will be a celebration of this.”
“It’s fantastic to be able to bring so many youngsters from different schools together in a non-competitive setting that will give them the opportunity to develop further whilst hopefully having a lot of fun.”
The Premier League School Sport programme is free to schools across Sunderland, South Tyneside and County Durham.
