Gabbiadini to take on 200-mile challenge.

Former Sunderland AFC striker Marco Gabbiadini has signed on to take part in 2014’s Italian Cycle Challenge to raise money for SAFC charity the Foundation of Light.

The Italian Challenge is an epic cycle ride from the Mediterranean coastline of Italy to the Adriatic.

The route crosses the Tuscan Hills and the Apennine Mountains before visiting the mountain principality of San Marino and descending to the coastline in the west.

Following on from the Foundation of Light’s highly successful Dublin to Sunderland cycle challenges, the Italian Challenge commences 4th June 2014 and covers 200 miles in four days.

Riders are fully supported on the route and price includes meals, hotels and flights into Pisa and from Venice.

Phil King, Foundation of Light Head of Commercial commented: “We’re delighted to have Marco on board for the upcoming Italian Cycle Challenge – he’s a great character and a real asset to the team.”

“The Italian Challenge is ideal for the amateur cyclist who fancies a challenge, wants to experience beautiful scenery, enjoy team camaraderie and make some unforgettable memories.”

To take part in the Italian Cycle Challenge riders must pay a £250 deposit to reserve their place, and pledge to raise a further £1250. Due to UK tax laws gift aid can be applied to pledges.

The Italian Cycle Challenge is sponsored by Grafton Group plc.

Structurally and financially independent of the football club the organisation relies on fundraising for 90% of project costs.
