Unbeaten run comes to an end on Merseyside.

WSL Champions Liverpool hit Sunderland for six as they brought the Lady Black Cats' unbeaten run to a dramatic end.

It took Liverpool just four minutes to get off the mark. Gemma Davison picked up the ball on the edge of the area and hit a fierce shot beyond Helen Alderson in the Sunderland goal.

Alderson produced a great save to deny England striker Natasha Dowie as Liverpool continued to pile on the pressure, she then tipped a shot over the bar before Keira Ramshaw was forced to clear off the line.

Gemma Davison made life even more difficult for the visitors as her cross was tapped in from close range by Schroder. A shell shocked Sunderland then lost the ball from the kick off and Liverpool pressure earned them a corner. Fara Williams' corner reached the clinical Dowie who hit home at the far post.

Dowie compounded the visitors' woes with a neat turn and strike on the edge of the area that left Alderson in the Sunderland goal with no chance and gave the home side a four goal lead going into the break.

Sunderland started the second half better and began to close Liverpool down quickly and create half chances. However, the sharpness and fitness of the full time professional side began to show as they continued to stretch the Sunderland defence.

On the hour mark the sharp shooting Dowie got her hat-trick, once again creating space for herself inside the box and firing her shot just inside the far post to give Liverpool a five goal lead.

Liverpool sealed the victory with Katrin Omarsdottir tapping in the sixth goal of the game on the line from Lucy Bronze pull back.
