Diakite, Roberge and Cabral join up

Sunderland have announced a triple deal involving centre-backs Modibo Diakite, Valentin Roberge and defensive midfielder Cabral.

All of the trio signed three year contracts and have joined the Black Cats after their contracts expired. Joining from all parts of Europe, the players become Paolo Di Canio’s 3rd, 4th and 5th players signed in this window.

Cabral, who joined from Swiss outfit Basel, plays for Cape Verde and was involved in Basel’s Europa League adventure last term. The 24-year-old is the second midfielder to be signed this summer.

Valentin Roberge joined from Maritimo in Portugal. The Frenchman was also involved in the Europa League last season and played against Newcastle. The pacy centre-back has been joined by powerful, 6ft 4in Modibo Diakite, who is French of Senegalese dissent.

Also signing this summer have been young wingers/strikers Duncan Watmore and David Moberg Karlsson.
